New Coordinated Effort to Fight Alzheimer’s

The National Alzheimer’s Project Act was signed into law this week.  This Project aims to coordinate and evaluate research and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease as well as institutional, home and community based programs and their outcomes.  The Project also aims to accelerate the development of treatments for the disease.

Currently, 5.3 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer’s disease and close to 11 million people are caregivers (both paid and unpaid) for those with the disease.  By 2050, 13.5 million Americans are projected to be suffering from the disease.  (Source: Alzheimer’s Association)
