I heard this on the Colbert Report and just had to share.  It’s a strange, but true story I couldn’t pass up.  Organ donation is a very difficult choice & a very somber subject, except in this instance.

Apparently, Iceland has a phallus museum.  The found & director, Mr. Sigurdur Hjartarson aims to collect a specimen from every mammal in Iceland; “someone had to do it,” he says.  It started as a joke, but his collection grew and he eventually opened the museum.  One of the few mammals he was lacking to complete his collection was homo sapiens.  Well, a generous fellow, Pall Arason, donated his, after his death, of course.

I don’t know of any museums of that nature here in the States, but if you have a desire to donate your organs to science, research, transplantation or display (?), you should let your loved ones know and check the box at the Registry of Motor Vehicles when you renew your license or online at https://secure.rmv.state.ma.us/OrganDonor/intro.aspx (although, if you don’t want to allow donation of all of your organs, you should not use this option).  Another option is to fill out a donor card and keep it in your wallet.  This is a good option if you want to restrict what can be donated.  You can get a donor card by signing up with the  New England Organ Bank at http://www.donatelifenewengland.org/index.html
